It looks like our Jamaica trip is falling apart.  Greg and family were on the ferry to Vancouver when they got word that their flight to Toronto tomorrow has been cancelled.  And, even if they had made it, it is probable that we all wouldn't get out of Pearson on Saturday anyway.  Final decision tomorrow.

And with that bit of news we'll switch and talk about Malcolm's 2008 trip.

When it came to be Malcolm's turn at an adventure trip I had become interested in hiking at the Grand Canyon, but didn't yet have the courage to attempt a crossing.  So we decided to cocentrate on the North Rim.

On the way we made a couple of stops.

We went to the top of the St. Louis Gateway Arch.

And took in the view.....

...including the Cardinals' Busch Stadium.

Lunch in Manitou Springs, before we took the tram up Pike's Peak.

A little chilly at 14,110 feet in shorts.

Next up, Bryce Canyon.

Then, Sedona.

We hiked for a couple of days along the North Rim.  

For some reason I couldn't find my pictures of the North Rim.

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is 1,000 feet higher than the South.  Water falling on the South Rim flows away from the Canyon, whereas water falling on the North Rim flows into the Canyon and causes these incredible erosion features.

After a few days of hiking, we reached our planned slot canyon destination.

Our guide was keeping a close eye on the weather.  If a rain storm had started north of us this canyon could have been full of flowing water in minutes..........and we would have ended up in the Colorado River.  It certainly makes you in awe of Mother Nature!

This was another great bonding trip.  In the meantime, Malcolm grew like a weed and he is now about the same amount taller than me that I was over him in the picture above.
