Happy Camper

Spent an hour and half at the greenhouse digging and watering before the heat and humidity (and the start of the Blue Jays game) drove me home.

David and I saw a couple of young coyotes in the back field but, once again, by the time we got our phone cameras set up they were gone.

---------------------------------------------

Brought home the foot stool that Mardi painted yesterday.  Add a pillow and she's a happy camper.

The footstool is a nice match too.

----------------------------------------

Blue Jays beat the Tigers 4 - 1 today.  Well done.

Stay well.

Yard Sales

Did my usual Saturday morning shopping trip with Mardi and Judy.  A pretty good day for all three of us.

Judy found several items that were on her shopping list.  Mardi says that she saved over $300 (more on that later), and I found another treasure.

The carving was signed by a member of the Cape Croker First Nation.  Got it for $4 plus gas.  Makes me wonder how much the artist got paid originally!

Now, back to Mardi.  When we got our balcony back I retrieved two of the chairs that I had taken to the greenhouse during the construction.  When Mardi sits back in those chairs her feet dangle a couple of inches from the floor.  So, she was thinking of buying a whole new set.
But today we found a footstool whose construction matches our chairs.  For $2 and a $16 can of spray paint, we have avoided the purchase of a new set, thus the saving of over $300.

Don't you love it?

Blue Jays beat Detroit 5 - 3 with a comeback win.  Another good day.

Stay well.

Another Good Day

Spent most of the day with daughter Kathryn.  She took her car to the dealer for some maintenance first thing and I picked her up.

Breakfast with Kathryn at McDonald's - great.  Then lunch at Chez Mardi - even better.  Shopped some, walked a mile along the lakeshore.  Sat and enjoyed the day looking at the lake.

Stopped at Golf Town and had my putter regripped with the old guy fat grip, courtesy of the gift card my other daughters gave me a long time ago.  And then took Kathryn back to the KIA dealer to pick up her car.

Thank you Barbara and Jo-Ann.

Ron King, now if you miss a putt when you borrow my putter, it's on you!

Had a couple of drinks afterwards with the love of my life.  Just a great day (until she beat me at Skip-Bo).

-----------------------------------------------

Blue Jays dropped a 4 - 2 decision to the Detroit Tigers.  It was only shown on Apple TV so I had to just go with updates on the phone.  Kind of glad that I didn't have to watch it.

-----------------------------------------------

Yard sales tomorrow.  Stay well.

A Great Day

Mardi's Thursday foursome at Willow Valley became a onesome as her partners had other situations that caused them to cancel.

So Calvin, David and I joined Mardi instead.  Mediocre golf, but a fine time.  Weather was good, company was perfect, beer was refreshing.

Afterwards Sue joined the four of us at our place for dinner to complete a perfect day.  Awesome!

----------------------------------------

Blue Jays defeated Detroit Tigers 5 - 3.  Perfect nightcap for the day.

Stay well.

Finished

 From this..........

..........to this.

Field grasses, which had invaded this area, root laterally about 3 or 4 inches down.  So I dug it out about that far - I'm sure that I didn't get them all, but enough that I should be able to control things now.

Added about five broken bags of soil and two bags of mulch.

These were "Charlie Brown" junipers that I planted a couple of years ago.  Spindly and not saleable.  Give them a couple more years and they'll look just fine.

---------------------------------------------------

Norman Lear is 100 years old today.  His advice?  Forget what has happened in the past.  Don't worry about what is next.  Live in the moment.

Kathryn, enjoy your visit with Leslie.

---------------------------------------------------

Blue Jays lost to the Cardinals on the wrong end of a 6 - 1 game.  OK, so don't live in that moment!  Shake it off guys.

---------------------------------------------------

Stay well.

Living The Dream

Started at the greenhouse working on another garden.  This one has been ignored for a while.  As you will see from the picture below we're dealing with red clay, and it's dry and hard.  I couldn't get a shovel into it so I had to go with the adze.

It's so dry that the cracks in the clay were an inch wide and six or seven inches deep.  Moved a wagon load of dirt to the back field, but didn't get the rest done.  Decided that watering and cutting grass would be a smarter move.  I'll work at the garden piecemeal over the next couple of work days.

I know that there are folks who think I'm crazy trying to do this stuff at my age.  Stay out of my way - I'm not ready to put together a celebration of life speech yet.

-------------------------------------------

Got home to a welcome surprise.  Our balcony is ours again.

As you can see from the mess on the ground there are still other risers that haven't been completed.  Glad to have our balcony back again!

------------------------------------------------------

Blue Jays beat the Cardinals 10 - 3.  That's 50 runs they've scored over the last four games!  Fun to watch!

Keep breathing and stay well.

More Active Today

A bit more active today than yesterday.  My excuse yesterday was that it rained in the morning and the forecast called for a thunderstorm at 1 p.m.  Coincidentally, the Blue Jays game started at 1 p.m., so I played hooky from the greenhouse.

Today we (the guys) golfed at Cambridge (although some of the shots that David and I made would not be described as golf shots).  We both played a poor game and at times David tried to be a lumberjack and knock down trees with golf balls.  Didn't work.

After golf and the usual inquest over beer, David and I headed to the greenhouse.  I finished another garden around a bush and watered the plants down front.  Fortunately the temperature was just fine for those activities and the leg held up for most of the duration.

Then watched TV for a while.  The U.S. is dealing with the criminal activities of Trump's Republican party.  Canada is dealing with the criminal activities of the Catholic Church regarding our Indigenous citizens.  I don't hold out a lot of hope for justice in either situation.

No Blue Jays game today.

Stay well.

Lazy Bud

Birthday wishes go out today to Barry Kopysh, our Wordle moderator.  All the best Barry!

-----------------------------------------

Watched the Blue Jays sweep the Red Sox with an 8 - 4 victory today.

And, Brooke Henderson won the Amundi Evian Golf Championship (her second major victory) by one stroke, at -17.  Well done!

-----------------------------------------

Cambridge golf tomorrow.

Stay well.

Good Friends

I have belatedly discovered that today is Jacquie Court's birthday.  I guess Sven was too absorbed in his own birthday festivities to tell us about  his daughter's event.  Shame!

----------------------------------------------------

Yard sales this morning with Mardi and Judy.  Everyone found treasures.  Mine was another Loon carving.  I need another shelf!

----------------------------------------------------

Gary and Jill invited some golf couples for food, fun and drinks at their place in Burlington (so I guess that I shouldn't be too hard on Sven).

Some games were played, including a golf chipping competition.  Mardi represented the ladies very well.

She plays better in bare feet apparently.

Jill is being coached by Matt on this game.  Practice needed.

It was a wonderful way to spend an enjoyable day with good friends.  Very kind and thoughtful of Jill and Gary to come up with this idea.  Many thanks!

---------------------------------------------

Blue Jays beat the Red Sox again today, but by a more modest 4 - 1 score.

Stay well.

Blue Jay Records

Yesterday was Ethan's birthday, today it's his mom Angela's turn.  Best wishes.

--------------------------------------------------

Worked on a garden for an hour before the heat and humidity got to me.  Headed back to the greenhouse to discover that David had sent the staff home (not the garden centre folks) for the rest of the day.

Told the twins that I wasn't up to the watering task today.  They'll look after it.

Got to see Charlie.  He hasn't met up with the ferret/weasel yet.  Still just a laid back puppy.

-------------------------------------------------

Blue Jays set some franchise records tonight with their 28 - 5 victory over the Boston Red Sox.  Four of those runs came from a highlight inside-the-park grand slam homer by Raimel Tapia.

Great way to start the second part of the season.

Stay well.

More Tree Stories

First off, happy birthday wishes to Ethan Bullivant who turned 23 today.  All the best big guy!

--------------------------------------------

I previously explained the history of the Oak tree in the background of this picture.

Shortly after it was planted I planted another two that Grimsby squirrels had left under the Pine trees along the greenhouse driveway.  They only lasted a day - they were on the evening dining tour route of local deer.

So, a few years later, the squirrels helped us again.  And the tree in the foreground is one of those.  As is the following one........

I put fencing around them for a few years, but eventually the deer chose a different route and they've been fine lately.

But, my favourite is this Chestnut.

It started its life at Gateshead several years ago.  For a few years it seemed stuck at two feet tall.  I finally realized that the deer were topping it off after they ran out of Oak leaves.  But it is thriving now.

When I was in public school there was a huge Chestnut tree on the route.  Wayne and I would collect them, drill holes for a string and play Conkers.  So, my life wish now is to live long enough for this tree to provide chestnuts for me to play that game again.  You'll have to head back to Ontario for a visit when that happens Wayne!

--------------------------------------------

Spent a couple of hours tonight watching the January 6 Committee hearing.  Incredible.  Afterwards the pundits on CNN were debating whether dereliction of duty would stick to Trump.  How about treason guys?

Trump is a man with no conscience, no principles, no character.  Just greed, hate and self aggrandizement.  I hope they are able to do something about him before the mid term elections put the Republicans back in charge!

---------------------------------------------

Stay well.

New Greenhouse Employee

Meet Charlie, our newest addition at the greenhouse.

He's eleven weeks old and a real sweetie - actually there are two sweeties in this picture.

Jake's remains have been given a place on the property and he can now rest peacefully, knowing that those field mice will have their days numbered.

David claims to have been browbeaten into getting Charlie, but that's like saying that I only ate that ice cream because it would melt otherwise.  He's a softie too.

Glad you have joined the team Charlie!  Looking forward to working with you.

------------------------------------------------------

That's all folks.

Stay well.

Heat Warning

A correction to yesterday's blog: the $440 million dollar offer to Juan Soto was not for 10 years, it was for 15 years.  OK, so now it's starting to make sense.  After all, in these days of high inflation, how far will $29,333,333 a year take you?

------------------------------------------------------

A heat warning was in effect today, so I took it easy.  An hour on the mower and an hour watering.

I watered the pink baskets along the front and the big planters.  Then the mum planters in those long rows.  When the baskets behind them are sold or relocated, the mum planters will move onto the automatic drip lines.  But until then it's a manual activity.

-----------------------------------------------

Watched the All Star game and it was entertaining.  Started with a tribute to Jackie Robinson who broke the baseball colour barrier 75 years ago.  Then, the crowd sang Happy Birthday to his widow who turned 100 today.  A nice gesture.

The American League won for the 9th straight year.  Manoah pitched a perfect inning, Vladdy and Espy made good defensive plays, Kirk was the starting catcher.  But Romano didn't get to pitch in the game - hopefully he's an All Star again next year and will get his chance.

Stay well.

Sod Buster

Some welcome rain today.  Washed out our golf game but I'm still happy to see the moisture.  The red clay had developed gaps about an inch wide as it dried out.

And the rain made it easier to remove about a 15" swath of sod from around this Oak tree.  Weeded and mulched (and wiped off a lot of sweat - heavy humidity).  Looks a lot better now.  Interestingly, this Oak began its life in Mardi's backyard on Gateshead where a nice squirrel planted it for us.  Quite a few years between then and now!

---------------------------------------------
Watched the All Star Home Run Derby.  Good entertainment.  Juan Soto, who has just turned down a 10 year 440 million dollar contract won the derby.  Strange times that we live in!
---------------------------------------------
The twins are home after a 48 hour driving marathon from the Grand Canyon.  Had a great time.

Stay well.

Happy Day After Sven

All of those birthday wishes for Sven yesterday took a lot out of me, so we'll cut it short tonight.

Watered at the greenhouse.

Blue Jays beat the Royals 4 - 2.  Next up is the All Star Game.

Stay well.

The Birthday Boy

We have a lot of birthdays to celebrate today:

Happy birthday Sven

Happy birthday Andy

Happy birthday Arnie

Happy birthday Annie

Happy birthday Ned

Happy birthday Fudd

Happy birthday Gary

"All for one, and one for all" as they say.

------------------------------------------------

Lots of noise on the balcony today.

No safety harness, no hard hat, flip flops instead of safety shoes (with steel shards flying in every direction) and probably no ear protection.  Oh well, as long as they get this job done eventually we'll be happy.

Didn't finish it today, so it will be Monday at the earliest.

-----------------------------------------------

Blue Jays pulled off a dramatic walk-off 6 - 5 win in the 10th inning against the Royals.  Exciting to watch.

Stay well.

Lawn Mowers

My friend Wayne sent me a series of cartoons and I made a mistake by forwarding the email to Mardi.   She started laughing at the first one and said "That's you in a few years at the greenhouse".

May happen sooner than a few years based on my leg issue.  Just don't stand in front of me sweetie!

But, as an interim measure I may try this mower.

------------------------------------------

A different approach to Dorsal's Diary today as we comment on a current event...............

Germany relies upon Russian natural gas for its heating, etc.  But, the capacity of the pipeline has been reduced while some turbines are being repaired in Canada and the Germans are concerned about supply during the coming winter.  Germany has asked Canada to pause its sanctions so that the turbines can be returned to Russia to help ensure adequate supply (if Russia agrees to keep the taps on of course).

The U.S. is in favour and Canada has announced its intention of complying.  Now, the Ukrainian World Congress is suing Canada to prevent this move because it helps the Russians.  They claim that there is a Ukrainian pipeline that could provide the supply (which ironically also transports Russian gas - so much for not helping Russia).  And, what are the chances that pipeline will survive the war?

The Congress is made up of former Ukrainian citizens.  There is a Ukrainian Canada Congress, one of 33 such organizations that make up the World Congress.  And, although the World Congress was started in New York, it now appears that it is located in Toronto.  The current President and 1st Vice-President are Canadian, as is the Treasurer.

Before the war started, Ukraine's major problem was depopulation (over 20 million Ukrainians currently live in other countries - that's about half of the current population - and the war has since seen a few million more leave the country).  Ukraine is poor and corrupt.  Death rates exceeded birth rates, even before the war, and the remaining population is aging.

Bottom line is that the members of the Congress, who left their mother country, are berating Canada despite the fact that we have provided hundreds of millions of dollars for that country's war effort.  Based on comments on-line, it appears that with this move they may have done severe damage to their relationship with Canadians.  The war seems to have faded into the news background recently and this move will only serve to alienate a lot of folks who were previously happily supporting Canada for doing its part to help.

-------------------------------------

Blue Jays had a convincing 8 - 1 win over the Royals.  Well done!

And Sven must be getting excited.  It's less than two hours from his birthday as I write this.  All the best partner!

Stay well.

Worked over, wet and warm

Went for my massage today.  They really seem to be working.  But it's another three weeks before I could get back in, so we'll see how the leg progresses in the meantime.  I can now manage rough ground and easy slopes, but not yet any stairs.

Afterwards, worked on gardening for a while and then concentrated on watering.  Things are really dry!

David has put all hanging baskets on for $10. each.  Had a couple of cars pull up while I was down front.  They picked out some baskets and tried to pay me cash.  Sent them back to the greenhouse to complete the sale.  They didn't pull any water lines on other baskets - nice ladies.

-----------------------------------------------

Then, Mardi and I headed to the Streckers' for a nice afternoon outing by the pool.

Glad that they didn't get the picture of me when I was drowning (and they were laughing).

Ed still isn't allowed in the pool after his hip operation, but hopefully soon.  A really nice time with special friends, i.e. the matchmaker and his mate Rose.  Don't know where I'd be if he hadn't introduced me to Mardi!  Drowning in my sorrows likely (better to drown in the pool).

------------------------------------------

Yesterday there was a plumbing failure two stories up from us.  They came in to check on our situation.  Looked OK to me, but their instrument detected moisture behind the wall, so we have lost the use of our shower and sink for a day or so.

A blower and a dehumidifier, both going full blast.  Lots of heat and noise.

And in the hall outside our unit........more of the same.

It's an old building (about 50 years) but they do look after it well.  Now if only we could get the use of our balcony back!

---------------------------------------------------

The twins continue on their way.  Previously a stop at Disneyland.

And then, on to the U.S.S. Midway.

Where Ewen presumably got his pilot's license.

Have fun kids.  It's a trip you'll never forget.

----------------------------------------------

Kansas City Royals had to leave 10 of their team home because they weren't vaccinated.  Called up some reserves from the minors, and still beat the Blue Jays 3 - 1.  Makes you wonder.

Stay well.

Tires and Turkeys

Happy birthday to Maureen.  Hope you had a great day.

---------------------------------------------

Mardi and I headed to Costco today to spend our rebate.  Spent more than that!  It's Costco after all.

And I made a spontaneous purchase - Chicago Mix.  It's been a couple of years since we gave this stuff up.  Couldn't resist.  Besides, maybe this will save me from going shopping in the future.  Me bad.

----------------------------------------------

After working for a couple of hours at the greenhouse I headed for Ace tire once again.  This is the third flat tire I've had on the mower in the past week.  Small nail this time - don't know where it came from.

By the way, Barbara and Jo-Ann, Gary Bartkiewicz was asking how you were doing and reminiscing about the Nanaimo era.

On the way home I saw a Turkey hen and her chick on the road.  Pulled over and took a picture, but by then they were heading up a grapery.  The chick is the dark spot to her left - small and hard to see.

I didn't know that they started out so small.
----------------------------------------------
Blue Jays fired Charlie Montoyo today and John Schneider took over as Interim Manager.  An immediate change in base running - much more aggressive - and the 8 - 2 victory is a good start to his tenure.
I expect that we will have more exciting baseball to watch from now on.

Stay well.

A Basket Case

First off, a word of warning.  I received a purported message from Rogers that looked very authentic.  It said that we would be receiving $90  to compensate us for their outage.  Required authentication of who you were, not a robot, etc.  Then you would pick out your bank and all you had to do was enter your account number and your password for the account and the money would be yours. 👎

--------------------------------------

Spent some time today down front standing up the hanging baskets that the wind had blown over (182 to be exact, but who's counting?).

Yesterday there was a really strong wind blowing along the escarpment.  Today it was still windy.  As a result the baskets get dried out and then blown over.

After I stood them up again they were hit with an extra watering to add some weight.

--------------------------------------------

That job was just a bit frustrating.  But there is also a situation down there that is really maddening.

"Customers" like to shop down front, without staff on hand.  I assume that most of them pay, but that's not the issue.  What gets me down is that they pull the water line out of a basket, then change their mind and take another one, without replacing the water line in the first.  So this happens.

Bah humbug!  (Language laundered for a sensitive audience.)

-----------------------------------

Saw a young coyote at the back of the property today, but he was very camera shy.  Field mice and rabbits had a good crop this year, so there's lots for the coyotes to feed on.

-----------------------------------

Matt hurt his back yesterday while golfing.  Not sure if he's going to be physically able to bake a cake for Maureen's birthday tomorrow.  Bad timing Matt.

Speaking of  birthdays, another word of warning.  Sven's is coming up on Saturday.  Don't let him try to convince you that he has a birthday for every alias, i.e.  Gary, Sven, Ned, Fudd and Andy to name a few.  It's sort of like the Rogers deal - not authentic!  Just one birthday, the 16th.

-----------------------------------

Blue Jays held on for a 4 - 3 well earned victory over the Phillies.  Hopefully they're back on track now.

Stay well.

Golf and Gardens

Golfing at Cambridge today I managed to eliminate the four shots that kept me from shooting my age last week.  Unfortunately, I screwed up twenty other shots and ended up with my worst game of the season so far!

I'm blaming my leg.  It's actually getting better - threw me off!

But I made some money ($1) off the other guys so it was a good day overall.

-------------------------------------------------------

Headed to the greenhouse to move some more skids and to water.

My "yellow" garden is coming along.

Just watered the Million Bells so they're a bit flattened - sorry about that.

-----------------------------------------------

The twins did Disneyland today.  One more adventure along the way.

And, the Blue Jays were undefeated today - they didn't play.  'Nuff said!

-----------------------------------------------

Stay well.

Long Walks

The twins have just left San Francisco after a 3 day visit.  One of those days they walked 28 kilometres (I assume round trip) for a visit to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Trip of a lifetime!  Enjoy it kids!

--------------------------------------------------

Speaking of long walks, Mardi and I did the Beach Strip Yard Sale today.  Probably walked about 6 kilometres.  A good test for the leg.  So far so good.  I'll know better after the next two days of golf.

--------------------------------------------------

Blue Jays got swept - four games lost to the Mariners.  Today's loss was primarily due to a ball going through the webbing of Guererro's glove.  Second time that's happened this year.  Surely that's something that could be prevented.

My take?  They're not going anywhere in the playoffs this year.  Pitching is a shambles.  Offence is home run happy.

---------------------------------------------------

Stay well.

Same old, same old

Spent some time at the greenhouse again, cutting grass and watering.

Blue Jays lost again.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be more exciting.

Stay well.

The Day After Quoits

Worked at the greenhouse for a while today, but otherwise there is nothing to report.

And the Blue Jays don't play until 10 p.m. and are only available on Apple TV.  Not going to bother.  Need my beauty sleep.

Stay well.

Quoits Anyone?

Today was a major event in the sports world (well our important world at least).  The annual Quoits Championship  was held at Sven's beautiful property in Burlington.

The participants were world renowned of course.

Last year's champions (David and I) weren't up to the task of defending our crown.  So, we passed it on to the Addis brothers, Allan and Bill.

Next year David and I will be split up.  With new partners, one of us will hoist that trophy!

-----------------------------------------------

Blue Jays don't start until 10 p.m. our time tonight, tomorrow and Saturday, so I won't wait.

Keep breathing.

Animal Kingdom

Weeded some gardens, moved some skids of soil, cut some grass, watered some baskets.  Routine.

The Killdeer eggs have hatched.  Not even a piece of shell left on site.  And I saw all four chicks.  I can't believe that a chick this size could have fit in an egg not much bigger than a thumbnail!

Also saw two muskrats swimming across the pond, but the phone didn't get out in time for a picture.

It must have been a good winter for the animal life.  I've seen tons of field mice, several rabbits, and a chipmunk (that may be living in the greenhouse currently).  The worst are the rabbits.  They chew through the water lines in the field.

-------------------------------------------------

Blue Jays wrapped up a five game losing skid with a 2 - 1 victory over the Oakland Athletics this afternoon.

Next up are the Seattle Mariners, where lots of Canadian fans show up to see the Jays.  Unfortunately, games don't start until 10 p.m. our time.

-------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow, David and I head to Sven's to defend our Quoits Championship.

Stay well.

Cactus Pete

My grandson Yancy celebrated his birthday today, and Mardi's great nephew Jonah becomes a teenager today as well.  Congratulations and best wishes to both!

And the exciting news for us is that Yancy, Kayt and Rowan will be visiting next week.  Yancy has a job assignment at Six Nations during their visit.  Can't wait!

----------------------------------------------

Loafed this morning while it rained.  Then headed to Ace Tire to pick up wheels for the mower and a cart that had been repaired.  Installed them and then weeded and cut some grass.

Looked like the rain was coming again soon, so I collected some spent florets from the cactus and planted five trays of them.  The ones that I planted two years ago are now starting to grow additional leaves.  I think that next year we'll have some nice plants to sell.

It's not a quick process, but perfect for an old fart to spend his time on.  When they grow new leaves or start to flower it's like having new kids to enjoy.

----------------------------------------------

Blue Jays are tied with Oakland after two innings.  Fingers crossed.

Stay well.

My Golf Game Got Younger

We had a good day at Cambridge Golf today.  Shot an 89 and I know which 4 shots kept me from golfing my age.  So next time 😉!

Also took a bit of money from the other guys.  An excellent day!

---------------------------------------

While I was golfing, Mardi and a couple of friends were busy helping Joyce move into her new digs.  Now, hopefully, she can relax and enjoy her friends in the complex once again.

---------------------------------------

Blue Jays are playing in Oakland tonight.  A 9::07 starting time, and an early deficit, so I won't ask you to wait for the late results.

Stay well.

Jays Wiped Out

Wayne informed me that he is currently paying $215.9 for gas on Vancouver Island.  So, my $1.799 WAS a bargain!

-------------------------------------------

Blue Jays got wiped out for the third game in a row by the Tampa Bay Rays, who were supposed to be strapped for pitchers.

Oh well, on to Oakland.

-------------------------------------------

Here's comin' at ya.

Courtesy of Jim Maguire.  I just love this picture.  Talk about an evil eye!

Double Header

Spent a couple of hours at the greenhouse, cutting grass and watering.  On the way home I stopped off at Costco to fill up - petroleum prices are down and Doug Ford has removed 5.9 cents of the tax.  Was met with a full house.

A few months ago, who would have guessed that we'd be happily lining up for gas at $1.799?
-------------------------------------------------

Then, Mardi and I headed to Optimist Little League Park to serve a shift for a weekend tournament.  Always lots of fun interacting with the parents and kids at the park.

We missed the first Blue Jays game because of that shift.  They lost 6 - 2 to the Rays so we apparently didn't miss much.

But in the second game of the doubleheader they lost 11 -5.  Should have worked another shift at the park!

-------------------------------------------------

Stay well.

Happy Canada Day

The second Pride flag lasted for the month.  Sean and Jaimie replaced it last night with a new Canada flag.

We're all set!

------------------------------------------------

Did some weeding today and split the big cactus out front.  It was invading territory I'm not permitting.  Then I broke off the segments and planted them in pots.

The light green ones on the right are the ones I'm talking about.  That's how Monica's began.

The darker ones on the left were planted from spent florets two years ago.  They had a growth spurt last year, but so far this year they haven't decided what to do.  Still at least a year away from being ready for sale.

Someday this crop should sell.  But it does take time.  I'll plant some florets again soon and we will see how they make out.  As long as David doesn't mind the space they take up we're OK.

---------------------------------------------------------

Jays had a decisive 9 - 2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.  The Rays have some pitchers on the disabled list and a couple of pitchers restricted from entering Canada because they are not vaccinated.  I wonder how the rest of the team feels about those two letting the team down?

---------------------------------------------------------

The best part of the day was heading for the Lighthouse Theatre to see a Norm Foster play "Halfway There".  Not quite as physical as the last play - but just as funny.  He's a gifted playwright.

Stay well folks.
