Next Year

The ace pitcher of the Blue Jays collapsed in the first two innings and the boys couldn't overcome the eight runs the Tampa Bay Rays scored against him.

So, they're out for this year.

But they had a good run and hopefully got some useful playoff experience which will help them in the future.

----------------------------------------

"How To Move To Canada" has been trending again since last night's "debate".  I would have thought that "How To Vote Out An Idiot" would have been a big mover too!

-----------------------------------------

Golf tomorrow.  Fishing trip Friday.

Stay well.

Wild Turkeys

A highlight at golf today (golf certainly wasn't a highlight!) was the sight of nine wild Turkeys on the course.

A closeup of two of them.

The following picture has eight Turkeys in it.  But, they're a bit old and gamey!

--------------------------------------------------

Got a picture from David today.  Titled "First Pull".  Nice!  We're ready to go.

-----------------------------------------------

Blue Jays played a good game today, but couldn't deal with the Tampa Bay pitchers.  Tune in again tomorrow - 3 p.m.

-----------------------------------------------

WOW!  Watched the "Presidential Debate", which was anything but "Presidential".

Trump was a total boor the whole time.  Biden came across as a decent man, stood up to the lies and insults, and spoke directly to the American people.  The moderator, Chris Wallace, a conservative leaning journalist, tried to be fair, and many times tried to get Trump to shut up, mostly unsuccessfully.

Hopefully, the American people were watching.

Stay safe.

Service Clubs

It's that beautiful time of year again.  Seen on Fifty  Road in Winona.  The picture doesn't really do it justice!

--------------------------------------------------

One of the sad casualties of the coronavirus has been the service club sector.

Many of you have supported our Stoney Creek Optimist Club at Ham Rolls, Turkey Rolls, and at the Winona Peach Festival.  So, I'm sharing a letter from our new President-Elect, Al Woods.

 "September 28, 2020

Hello Optimists, I trust all is well with everyone and you are staying safe in this unprecedented situation we are experiencing. Our lives have been completely turned upside down and the ‘normal’ we once had will probably be no more. And it has been six long months since we’ve had an opportunity to socialize together. And we are about to enter a new Optimist year. Recent events indicate that the Province is moving in the wrong direction as Covid19 cases continue to increase. As a result, it may be some time before we are able to meet face to face and carry out any events where gathering would be required. So, I just want to take a few minutes of your time to bring everyone up to date with a ‘state of the club’ in this environment. There were some hopes that we would be able to re-occupy our hall, but that now seems out of reach for some time. This is a double whammy, as we can’t enjoy it, and we are losing a lot of rental income. Since our area entered Stage 3, almost two dozen requests have been received for rental opportunities which we have had to turn down. Rental income always went a long way to paying the bills to maintain the hall – hydro, gas, communications, garbage pickup, insurance, plus a few upgrades in the hall. It costs the club in the vicinity of $800 each month just to pay the bills. We lost three major fundraising opportunities since March – ham roll, Little League Baseball food booth and of course the Peach Festival. These events were worth $20,000 to $25,000 to the club with which we were able to fund the many community projects that we used to help ‘bring out the best in kids’. However, Optimism knows no boundaries. The Board of Directors has been meeting monthly via Zoom, and although the agenda for these meetings has been limited, we have solved a few problems and have met all of our District and International obligations. And brought on stream a great Board of Directors team for 2020/2021. This team will be tasked, with help from every member, to keep the club afloat until we can resume operations in what will no doubt be a new ‘normal’. Communication: For the next few months, communication will be digital and virtual – Facebook, website, Rocky Ditch Journal and Zoom. Our current President, Optimist Jenn will be administrating our social media – including Portalbuzz – and Optimist Shelley D’Angelo will be our newsletter editor. Contact information with Jenn and Shelley, and with the Board, and with all members is available via the ‘People’ tab in The Optimist Club of Stoney Creek 890 Queenston Road, P.O. Box. 66605, SCPO Stoney Creek, Ontario – L8G 5E5 Phone – 905-662-2355 Friend of Youth and Serving the Community in Which We Live 1954 – 2020 www.stoneycreekoptimists.ca stoneycreekoptimists@gmail.ca Follow us on Facebook and Twitter the website.

Until further notice all of our meetings will be via Zoom, including general member meetings. I know this will be an issue initially for some members, but it is our only alternative for now. Finances: We are not broke, as some very wise members in years past put together a nest egg for that ‘rainy day’. However, as we are all Optimists, I would like to think that, while we may be on the cusp of that ‘rainy day’, there are some creative thinkers in the club that can bring some fundraising projects to the table. There are no bad ideas, only ideas that may need to be worked and/or reworked. One that we have been discussing is a virtual turkey roll – members get the cards, sell the circles and we conduct the wheel spin live on Facebook or Zoom, or recording the event on YouTube. More on club ambitions after our first Board meeting on October 7. Dues: In a few days’ notices will be going out to request the 2020/2021 dues. You may ask “why pay dues when I can’t socialize with other members or participate in projects”. I can’t answer that question, only to say this environment won’t last forever and we really need to maintain the fantastic image our club has in the community of Stoney Creek. That image will be tested in the coming days, but with a great Board and various talents of all our members, we can keep the shine on that image. We all need to thank Optimist President Jenn. Jenn had a great year underway, only to be ‘sabotaged” by Covid-19. Great plans for a banner year got sidelined after only six months. It wasn’t until well into June before we knew those plans were not to be. As we close out 2019/2020, I look forward to a different but interesting year. Yours in Optimism President-Elect Al"

Many service clubs were already experiencing member loss - ours has been an exception.  In contrast to many clubs, we have a group of enthusiastic, young members who are keen to keep up our traditional place in the community.  Some day we'll be able to do that again.

And we have some financial resources that will keep us alive until we can operate effectively again.  A lot of service clubs do not and I expect many will fade away.

But our issues are mild compared to those who need service club help.  In this environment the vulnerable are sadly left behind.

-------------------------------------------------

So, Trump is personally on the hook for over $400,000,000.  Probably to Russian oligarchs.  Tomorrow's debate should be "interesting".

-------------------------------------------------

Enjoy the fall colours.  Stay well.

The Weather is Changing

A slow news day.  Spent some time cleaning and organizing.  Exciting!

----------------------------------

We, and some other couples were to golf at Pike Lake Wednesday through Friday, but the forecast calls for rain on at least two of those days.  Accommodation, during the coronavirus was to be in separate trailers.  So, if it rained we would not only lose out on golf but we wouldn't be able to congregate for card games, etc.

So, it's been cancelled.  We'll play at MontHill on Thursday instead.

-------------------------------------

Now, fishing on the other hand, takes more hardy souls than golf.  We head to the Lake Nipissing area on Friday.  Forecast highs for our four day stay, a balmy 7C.  Down to freezing at night.  And rain forecast for one or two of the days.

-------------------------------------

Interesting news, not unexpected, about Trump's finances and taxes in the New York Times.  He has paid virtually nothing in the ten of the past fifteen years.  In each of the first two years of his presidency, he paid $750.  That's one percent of what he pays to have his hair sprayed!

Will that make a difference in the election?  Who knows?

------------------------------------

Stay well.

Yard Sale

Headed out for our weekly (probably my last for this year) Yard Sale adventure.  I bought nothing - was just an ornament today.

Mardi found another couple of jigsaw puzzles for her winter solitude.

I can see Monica's anticipation of getting a chance at these after Mardi tries them out.

-------------------------------------------------

It was nice to spend time with baby sis again.  We always end up at McDonald's for our late morning breakfast after we finish yard saling.

I get to see baby brother next week on our fall fishing trip.

-------------------------------------------------

The Jays are tuning up for the playoffs and beat the Orioles once again.  Just one "regular" season game left - tomorrow afternoon.

Playoffs start on Tuesday.

--------------------------------------------------

 Stay well.

Thundering Waters

Played Thundering Waters with Ron King and Judy Rivers today.  Beautiful sunny day.  Too bad about the golf.

If you've never played Thundering Waters you may not be aware that they have movable sand traps that jump in front of your ball on almost every hole.

Even the guy who always shoots it down the middle...

...sometimes ends up in a trap, or near one.

We missed getting the picture of the year, when Ron had trouble getting out of a deep bunker and did a smooth barrel roll in the grass.

Judy did her share of "beach" time as well.

But, nobody got as much practice there as I did.  The shot below was my second try from this trap.  Not the only time this happened today.

Even Mardi got into trouble a few times!

Nevertheless, she wiped me out again.  Down two with one to go.

---------------------------------------------

After the game we headed to Betty's Restaurant in Chippewa.  Excellent food, good prices, and lots of room between tables.

Thanks to Ron and Judy for arranging a great day!

----------------------------------------------

Got home in time to watch the last four innings of the Jays game against Baltimore.  They won 10-5, a nice tuneup for the playoffs.

-----------------------------------------------

Tomorrow I'm heading out again with the ladies for a Yard Sale morning.

------------------------------------------------

Stay safe.  Keep smiling.

Blue Jays in the Post Season

Did some gardening at the greenhouse today.  A beautiful day!

David has started gearing down.  He's completed his wholesale mum sales so the truck isn't out every day.

Still getting customers who remember Easter and swear that they will never shop elsewhere.  He's recovered the lost ground and the future looks good.  He may have to give some Lilies away next year to begin a tradition!

------------------------------------

Fun watching the Blue Jays tonight.   They played an excellent game, both offensively and defensively, beating the Yankees 4-1.  Three more games against the Baltimore Orioles, then they're in the playoffs, likely against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Go Jays!

---------------------------------------

Tomorrow we play Thundering Waters with Ron and Judy.  Should be fun.

---------------------------------------

Stay well.  Have fun.

It's Wednesday

Got the riding mower back in action today and spent two hours cutting grass.  Some sections are brown and dormant, others are lush and long.

----------------------------------------

Mardi was golfing today, so while she was away I used her indoor parking spot to load my fishing tackle from the storage locker.  Fishing starts a week from Friday.

------------------------------------------

Another blowout in the Blue Jays game, this time in their favour, 13-1 over the Yankees.  One more win and they're in the playoffs.

----------------------------------------

Kathryn dropped by for a visit tonight.  First time we've seen her in a month.

She's been attending Landscaping School.  Another week or so and then two weeks of Co-op placement on the job.

Good luck Kathryn!

------------------------------------------

Stay well.

Fall Has Arrived

It was a beautiful fall day at MontHill.  The trees are just starting to change.

Nevertheless, most of us struggled with our games today.  Not pretty!

A couple of the ponds have pretty well dried out, and it was tempting to think about going after some of the stranded balls, but seeing foot tracks that were about six inches deep kept us from being too foolish.

Oh well, the beer tasted good.

We just have one more official league game.  The season is coming to an end.

--------------------------------------

For punishment, I watched the Blue Jays get hammered by the Yankees.  Not pretty!

--------------------------------------

Stay well.  Stay safe.

The Rink

After the discussion yesterday about skating and David's rink, I decided to take a couple of pictures.

Yes, there is a rink.

And a Zamboni.

Actually, an Olympia, the company that screwed up in the winter Olympics.  He has two - this one, which dresses up for the Grimsby Santa Claus parade, and a spare.

While I was back at the rink I spent some time watching the Small Mouth Bass swimming in the pond.

Hard to get a picture, but there is one in this pic, it's shadow is slightly above centre.  Nice fish!

Also saw a Muskrat, but he escaped the camera.

Walked back to the escarpment and took the following picture.

Nice walk in the park.  The ugly buildings beyond the greenhouse are on the other side of the QEW.

----------------------------------------

Enjoyed the Blue Jays' game again tonight.  They beat the Yankees 11-5.  Their young catcher, Alejandro Kirk is just 21, five foot eight, 265 pounds, never played above A ball and tonight he got four hits, including his first major league homer.  The first catcher to do that in almost 100 years.  Before my time even!

------------------------------------------

Tomorrow it's golf at MontHill, where I try to put my game back together.

-------------------------------------------

Stay well. Stay positive.

Confederation Park

After Mardi returned from church we took a long walk to the area of the Waterworks at Confederation Park.

Along the way we passed by a pond that I skated on 70 years ago.

No fence in those days.  A two mile walk, play hockey for hours, and a two mile walk home.  We didn't have organized hockey in Fruitland - that was a Stoney Creek thing.

It was a beautiful day today and the sail boats were out in force.

We could make out the Toronto skyline beyond this laker.

Lots of folks enjoying the paths, walking, biking, skating and boarding.  But maintaining physical distance in the process.

--------------------------------------------

Home in time to watch the Blue Jays game.

Today they managed to avoid a 7th inning collapse and came out with a victory.

The last out.

--------------------------------------------

Tomorrow I'll push the mower again for a while.

Stay well.  Smile.

Yard Sale

Nice day for yard saling.  Hit lots of spots from Hamilton to Beamsville.

A long winter ahead with no trips will bring on cabin fever.  In anticipation of that, Mardi made a major purchase.

Seven puzzles, original retail value about $125., today's price $2.50 for the bunch.  That should keep her occupied this winter.

My purchase was a stained glass hummingbird for fifty cents.

We'll hang it in front of the balcony doors and pretend it's summer.

---------------------------------------

Jays lost again.  They still have a playoff spot in hand, up 4 games with 10 to play.  But time is running out!

---------------------------------------

Premier Ford's reduction in crowd sizes will have an effect on both Mardi and me.  Her church service will have to go online again.  In my case, it will mean that on our fishing trip we will not be able to mingle in each other's cottages.  We have 9 in one and 5 in the other - so outdoors we're still in compliance.  But 31 card games, and meals, will be separate.

----------------------------------------

Stay well.

Books

Spent an hour again today pushing the mower and got the front looking reasonably good.  A work in progress.

--------------------------------------------

Just finished watching two more disappointing games by the Blue Jays.  In the second game they had the lead twice, only to cough it up and end up losing.  A work in progress.

--------------------------------------------

Have been reading James Comey's book "A Higher Loyalty", on loan from sister Judy.  But, Bob Woodward's book "Rage" has now arrived so it will take precedence and the Comey book will go on the shelf for a few days.

--------------------------------------------

Tomorrow we're hitting the Yard Sale trail again.  We'll see what turns up.

--------------------------------------------

Trump says Canadians want to visit the U.S.  He must think we have a death wish!

Stay well.  Stay safe.

Fishing Season

Spent an hour cutting grass at the greenhouse today.  The riding mower is out of action so I fired up the push mower.  Figured I could just work away at the lawn and get from the road to the back of the greenhouse done.

Overestimated my physical resources.  Made four trips up the long driveway and decided to quit before my body paid the price.

Will try a bit more tomorrow.  Too stupid to just give up!

---------------------------------------

Watched the third and final game of the current Blue Jays / Yankees series.  They set records!

The Jays allowed five home runs in one inning, tying a major league record.  Over the three games they allowed nineteen home runs, setting a new major league record.

Despite that, they came back in the ninth inning and had the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate before it ended.

Tomorrow it's a doubleheader against the Phillies.  We'll see how that goes.  In any event, they are still in the pennant race.

----------------------------------

And some news on the fishing front.  I was not sure that David would be able to make the fall trip this year - he's out on the truck just about every day, shipping Mums.  So I had mixed feelings about making the trip.  Hard to get excited.

Then, David decided that he would not only be able to make the trip, but would take Ewen along as well.  Now I was getting interested!

The latest news is that he has decided to bring along all three boys.  Yahoo!  The five of us will have our own cottage.  Makes Grandpa happy!

Not only that, but in the bigger cottage (formerly the owners' home) three of the nine guys will also be Craigs.  Roger, son Paul, and grandson Evan.  Feel sorry for the non-family fisher guys.

--------------------------------------

Stay well.  Be polite.

Fall Weather

I finally got eight hours sleep last night.  It took me three days, but whatever!

---------------------------------------

Today was a perfect golf day - shorts and sweater weather.  At least Sven and I wore shorts.  The others seemed to wimp out for some reason - talked about frost and other fantasies.

Probably the most satisfying part of the day was watching Ron Leach have a career round.  Most deserving.  But it would have been nice if those three par threes where he ended up a few inches off the green and parred them could have been Dog Meats.  Maybe next time.

My game was out to lunch.  'Nuff said.

----------------------------------------

The other "exciting" part of the day was watching my Blue Jays get trounced 20 to 6 by the dreaded Yankees.  As far as I'm concerned, it was all due to Derek Fisher dropping and missing two catchable fly balls that would have ended an inning.  The pitcher wouldn't have had to pitch dozens more pitches to end the inning and wouldn't have been eventually pulled and replaced by another pitcher who walked four, hit two, and so it goes.

All because a big league fielder is so obviously afraid to catch the ball.  If he's not sent down promptly there's something wrong!  The other players deserve better!

I realize that this is probably only of interest to Al Knapp and me, but you asked for a blog.  And it tested my resolve to drink responsibly - but I didn't spill a drop.

------------------------------------------------

Mardi got her hair cut today.  I may not recognize her in the morning.

Stay well.

Monday, September 14, 2020

Another slow day.  A couple of days of irregular heart beats slowed me down.  Today was back to normal, but I chose to still take it easy - after all, tomorrow is a golf day!

Echocardiogram, scheduled weeks ago, finally takes place on Wednesday.

I've been living with this for several years (started soon after I met Mardi- she stole my heart and I haven't been the same since!)  Love you babe😍!

Controlled it by staying away from MSG for a long time, but it will eventually require a pacemaker.  I wonder if that will help my golf game?

------------------------------------------------

Received a Turkish proverb from my friend Wayne:

The forest was shrinking but the trees kept voting for the axe… for the axe was clever and convinced the trees that because his handle was made of wood he was one of them.

The Trump handle says Coronavirus is nothing, under control, going away.  The sharp part (can't believe I said that about Trump) admitted to Woodward that it was a killer.  Does this mean that Republicans are wooden heads?

-------------------------------------------------

Stay calm.  Stay well.

Canadian Open

A couple more notes about yesterday's yard sale find.

The carving is a reproduction of Genest's original, which I assume went to the winner.  When I bought it there was a plaque on the bottom.

The plaque came off fairly easily and the remaining glue just took a few minutes of work (by Mardi).

The man that I bought the carving from also had the '88 plaque, but I passed on that one because it wasn't readily recognizable as native art.

Du Maurier sponsored the tournament from the 1970's until the early 1990's, when tobacco fell out of favour.  Interestingly, the last record of Andre Genest auctioning his art was in 1991.

The trophy in its early years had soapstone carvings, switching, I assume, to the wood carvings sometime in the 1980's.

In any event, an interesting find.

-----------------------------------------------

No real news today.  Just stayed home and vegged out.

Stay well.

Yard Sales

Today was our first yard sale foray of the year.  As usual, Judy put together the itinerary and maps.

But, because of the coronavirus, we convoyed in separate cars - Judy with daughter-in-law Jessica (in Jess's electric Nissan Leaf) and Mardi and I in my van.

Jess is behind Judy.

I don't always go with them, and when I do it's more as a chauffeur.  But I do look around for those treasures that you sometimes find.

Today my treasure was an Inuit carving by Andre Genest (you can look him up).

Not bad for $5.

--------------------------------------

Stopped by to say hi to Sue.  We had a nice chat outside with the escarpment as a backdrop.  David was out in the truck once again.  Before I left, Jake and I took a walk back to the escarpment.

---------------------------------------

Then came home and watched the Blue Jays beat the Mets 3-2.  Last night I gave up in the fourth inning.  Saved myself some anguish - they lost 18-1.

---------------------------------------

Judy has loaned me James Comey's book "A Higher Loyalty - Truth, Lies, and Leadership".  Starting that will be tomorrow's project.

Stay well.  Stay safe.  Stay positive.

Home Again

Having a week away is good for the body and mind, and we got to share some time with family which was great, but it's nice to be back home again.  We're really comfortable here.

Tomorrow we're going to try the Yard Sale scene for the first time this year.  We'll see how that goes.

Stay well.

A Rest Day

After two days of mountain goat golf we needed a down day.

Headed to Barrie with the girls.  Chaopaya Thai Restaurant was the destination.  A block from the lake but with a good view of the water.

The food was great.  The server was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly.  We had lots of space.  A very nice experience.

--------------------------------------------------

Then, after a stop at a farm for a jug of maple syrup for Barbara and Jo-Ann, we headed back to Carriage Hills.

Spent the rest of the afternoon at our Skip-Bo game.  A close match today but Barbara and I retained our lead.

A nice visit with the ladies.  Good to see them after so much time!

---------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow we pack up and head home.  Stay well.

Family Time

Golfed today at Settlers Ghost with Ron and Jill, seen here after the round.

The engraving on the glass behind them made no sense to me until Mardi clued me in.

For those of you who are as slow as me, it is the golf course logo - a native with headress and a pioneer.  Pretty neat!

The forecast called for rain and it had indeed rained heavily overnight.  As usual, the weatherperson got it a bit wrong.  We had a few drops of rain on the 16th hole and that was it.  However, it was definitely a foggy, damp and chilly day.

Mardi closed me out after 13 holes.  For the early holes my glasses fogged up and that's my excuse.

But, the course is beautiful enough that scores and weather didn't matter.  Good friends do.

Can't explain the sun burn I got.

After wine and nachos we said our goodbyes.  A great day!

-----------------------------------------

Then it was time to meet up with Jo-Ann and Barbara.  They booked timeshare here for next week and when they heard that we would be here they advanced their reservation so that they could spend a couple of days with us.  We haven't seen them since last year.

Played a game of Hand and Foot and Barb and I got creamed!  So we switched to Skip-Bo and are now ahead 105 to 80.  We're going to stay with that game - seems the right thing to do.

-----------------------------------------

Tomorrow we have nothing planned so we decided to look for a Thai restaurant and get fed before we settle in for a marathon card game.

-----------------------------------------

Stay well.  Stay safe.

Settlers Ghost

 A postscript for yesterday.

-Golf rained out.

-Blue Jays game wasn't carried up here.  They apparently blew out the Yankees.

-And Mardi beat me at Skip-Bo.  For the first time since we began play last December she is in the lead for both score and games.

It was a struggle.  Labour Day is well named!

--------------------------------------

Apparently, my Tuesday guys wimped out on golf today.  But Mardi and I soldiered on!

It's not that I like playing in the rain, but the weather forecasters are about as accurate as my driver!  I usually show up and take my chances.

It was cool and the air was damp but we only had a few drops during the round.  You could see your breath though on a couple of the early holes.

In anticipation of my reporting, Gary Parker penned this email:

May I be the first to admit that we didn’t.

And, as it turned out not a drop of water fell in Burlington all day.  Probably didn’t in Caledonia either.  Is it possible that the public shaming you’ll no doubt deliver in today’s blog might be mitigated by this thought:

The Dofasco Golf group faced a cold, likely wet and dreary day on the links today and without their leader’s ever-optimistic, dam the torpedoes inspirational presence they felt ill-equipped to take on that challenge’.

Looking at it that way our ‘wimp-out’ was really your fault for not being here.

They need me!

Settlers Ghost is a beautiful course and it's in great shape.  Lots of blind shots and elevation changes  though.

Nice follow-through.  Too bad the ball went into the trees at the bottom of the hill.

Mardi closed me out on the 16th hole.  The following picture will give you a clue as to how that happened.

Afterwards we headed to a large Barrie mall to get some Sudoku books.  And Mardi found a store that was closing up and purchased a sweater for $5, regular $69.  A good day.

------------------------------------

Tonight, the Blue Jays scraped together a one run victory over the Yanks.  They're fun to watch.

------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow we return to Settlers Ghost.  More rain in the forecast - we'll see how that goes.  We're playing with Mardi's cousin Jill and her friend Ron.

-------------------------------------------------

Stay safe.

A Day Off

Thunderstorm overnight and rain a couple of times today so we stayed home.  Our big excitement will be watching the Blue Jays take on the Yankees.

Tomorrow we plan to play Settler's Ghost, despite the showers in the forecast.  We'll see how that goes.

------------------------------------------

Stay well.

Kettle and Stony Point Nation

We got off to a very slow start today.  Apparently, we needed this vacation!

Before I get into whatever light-hearted events may take place, I'm going to go political once again.

--------------------------------------

We in Canada have our own racist disgraces.  One example is with the Kettle and Stony Point Nation, who had their land taken from them in 1943 so that the military could build Camp Ipperwash.

They were promised their land back when the war ended.  Seventy-five years later that has still not happened.

After a fifty year wait they held a protest.  This is the twenty-fifth anniversary of unarmed native Dudley George being killed by an OPP sniper during that protest occupation.  Still no land returned.

What would it take to?

- immediately give them back their land

- compensate them for 75 years "rental"

- apologize for littering the property with unexploded munitions

- pay them to remove said munitions

Trudeau has found hundreds of billions for the pandemic and is apparently planning to spend billions more to win our hearts in the next election.  Surely this isn't less important than whatever he has in mind!

The Canadian government promises that the return of the land will happen.  When?  Does anybody other than the native community care?

------------------------------------------

Visited Craighurst and shopped for food (including our new go-to evening dessert, fudgecicles) and gassed up the van.  Then a highlight - Chelsea Chocolates, a mom and pop chocolate factory.  May need another stop there on the way home.

--------------------------------------------

Forecast calls for rain over the next two days.  We'll see what transpires.

--------------------------------------------

Stay well.  Stay safe.

The Valley Course

We joined Ron and Judy at The Valley course, or what remains of it, i.e. holes 10 to 18.  Very challenging, narrow, sloped fairways, significant elevation changes.

Yours truly made a great shot here.  About 250 yards, over the corner, admittedly downhill, to the middle of the fairway.

Hard to believe that the idiot took another 5 shots to go the last 150 yards.

But that's why she loves me.  She won the hole.

We headed to Loobies for lunch.

Salads for Ron and Judy, good old fashioned hot hamburg sandwiches for Mardi and me.

A great day with good friends.  Doesn't get a whole lot better than that!

But that course, even though it's just nine holes, takes a lot out of you!  We're both having trouble staying awake this afternoon trying to watch the Tour Championship.  Later it will be the Blue Jays against the Red Sox.

President Bone Spurs has been quoted as calling injured, captured and missing military personnel as "losers and suckers".  Trump denies it (although on TV he did call John McCain a loser because he was captured) and claims "only an animal would say things like that".

So, today's poll question is:

Skunk?_____________ Weasel?_______________

Tomorrow is a rest day.  Haven't decided what we're doing yet.  We're planning to golf Monday and Wednesday at Settler's Ghost, and back at the Valley nine on Friday before we head home.

Stay well.

Carriage Hills

Sean has sent the photos of Sarah-Jean and me.

We wore our masks for the hug, but cheated when it came time for the formal picture.

By now she's registered and starting to settle into her campus digs.  A whole new chapter in her life!

------------------------------------------

After dealing with the holiday weekend traffic we arrived at Carriage Hills (Horseshoe Valley) at about 3:30 p.m.  We had traded for a studio unit but they must really like me - we ended up with a lovely one bedroom.

Full kitchen -

Nice gas fireplace -

The view is OK - it was a lot better when that was a hole on a golf course out front but it's closed now.

Ron and Judy stopped by to say hello and welcome us.  We play the nine hole course here in the morning with them.

---------------------------------------

Watched a Blue Jays double-header against Boston, so didn't do much that needs reporting.

We'll reload tomorrow.  Stay well.
