FLORIDA 2020

By popular demand (two guys said they might be interested) the blog is revived for this trip.  There will be some interesting days and some really boring ones.  Don't say you weren't warned.

We finished packing on New Year's Day and had to put in time before we could start the clock on our 30 day out-of-province health insurance.  Ontario has just cancelled OHIP coverage for out-of-province, so that may explain why our CAA insurance had a 10% escalation this year.  More about that later in the trip.

The day dawned........

Red sky in the morning....sailor's warning.  Thank goodness we're not sailing!

We put in an eight hour, uneventful day, although the van isn't too happy.  Van's have souls you know.  And ours heard that it would be replaced in 2020 so it chose to get even.

First, the engine light came on.  It's either that the gas cap isn't tight, or it's just having a fit, because the van runs fine.

Next, as it warmed up we turned off the heat.  But the right side of the van wouldn't turn off.  Even when we turned on the air conditioning it didn't stop the heat.  We shut off those two vents, but can't get cool air to the right side of the van.  Doesn't bode well for Florida and those 80 C days!  I guess I'll be doing most of the driving - the left side is just fine thanks!

We arrived at the Comfort Inn in Manassas (site of two Civil War battles) just after 4 p.m.  Temperature plus 11C.  But the rain that was forecast for today didn't happen, so the van is still dirty (I understand that some people actually wash their vehicles).

We'll head out for dinner soon.  Tomorrow morning we plan to visit the Manassas Battlefield before heading on to Charleston, S.C.

Told you some days would be boring!

  2. Had to ‘enable third party cookies’ to establish commenting - life used to be so simple. Doc still used post cards - we might consider that in the future.
