Kettle and Stony Point Nation

We got off to a very slow start today.  Apparently, we needed this vacation!

Before I get into whatever light-hearted events may take place, I'm going to go political once again.

We in Canada have our own racist disgraces.  One example is with the Kettle and Stony Point Nation, who had their land taken from them in 1943 so that the military could build Camp Ipperwash.

They were promised their land back when the war ended.  Seventy-five years later that has still not happened.

After a fifty year wait they held a protest.  This is the twenty-fifth anniversary of unarmed native Dudley George being killed by an OPP sniper during that protest occupation.  Still no land returned.  

What would it take to?

- immediately give them back their land

- compensate them for 75 years "rental"

- apologize for littering the property with unexploded munitions

- pay them to remove said munitions

Trudeau has found hundreds of billions for the pandemic and is apparently planning to spend billions more to win our hearts in the next election.  Surely this isn't less important than whatever he has in mind!

The Canadian government promises that the return of the land will happen.  When?  Does anybody other than the native community care?

Visited Craighurst and shopped for food (including our new go-to evening dessert, fudgecicles) and gassed up the van.  Then a highlight - Chelsea Chocolates, a mom and pop chocolate factory.  May need another stop there on the way home.
