Change of Plans

Decided to take a more direct route to save two hours of driving time.  So we headed down the Interstate through Utah to Cedar City.  Finished at 5:30, our earliest stop yet (following our latest start) after just 9 hours of driving.  No big stops today.....that will come tomorrow.  But we hiked about four miles yesterday in Yellowstone, mostly above 7,000 feet, so we're still all tuned up.

The change means we will cancel Bryce Canyon tomorrow, but add Zion National Park instead.

This is the first day that we haven't had at least some rain.  Fortunately, the rain has always come while we were driving and stopped when we wanted to see something or explore.  Hopefully, we'll have the same luck in the Grand Canyon..........it's still their Monsoon season.  We've also been told that we may be starting to hike early in the morning..........in the dark.......to avoid the heat, so now we know why we were told to bring headlamps along.

Today we drove the first two hours through the mountains.  Utah skiing anyone?

How about rafting on the Snake River?

Our last picture is of a dam that we were about to cross.  It created a lake about two miles long and the other end was filled with boats zipping around like a PacMan game.   Some of them were cabiin cruisers for Pete's sake!  I guess when it's your only choice you do what you have to do. 

Temperature high today was 35C so it's still summer here.  Hope you folks at home get a bit more summer soon.
