On the way to MontHill we're dropping Greg off at Mount Hope for his flight home to Comox. We've had a nice visit and he was able to have a social distanced visit today with both Uncle Greg and Uncle Steve and their families.

Then headed to the greenhouse to cut the framing and the new floor for the cupboards. Bloody hot again!!!
The framing is now glued in place. Tomorrow the new floor gets installed and we should be ready to start to build the first drawer stack.

This afternoon, Mardi's son Greg arrived for a two day stay.
Needless to say, we didn't get much more accomplished. Lots of getting back up-to-date on Ethan, Chloe and on Greg's adventures.

We're really hoping for rain tomorrow. I think if it happens I'll just stand out there and get soaked. Need some relief from this heat.
The good news is that the grass at the greenhouse has turned a nice tan shade and has stopped growing, so I haven't had to fight the heat while it gets cut.

In the John Bolton book I'm at the chapter involving Trump's meeting with Kim Jong Un. Surreal! The behind the scenes maneuverings by all of the players would be laughable if it wasn't such a dangerous game.

Finished cutting a board at the greenhouse to temporarily hold up the end of the counter while I replace everything underneath. This is definitely not the recommended way to build kitchen cabinets. Should start at the floor and only put the counter on when everything else is in place. But, I love a challenge.
Tomorrow, if the creek doesn't rise, I'll take out the rest of the lower stuff and start to build it back up again. Can't rush this stuff!

Couldn't believe the heat when I went outside. Felt sorry for the folks working in the greenhouse. They were finishing up the planting of the garden mums and moving them to the field. Said hi to Sean as he pushed a cart past - shirt soaking wet from sweat. David's got some good people! And they've got a good boss!
I was only there for about a half hour, but needed a shower and a rest when I got home.

I had similar thoughts when the Rideau Hall incident occurred. A good proportion of the Canadian Rangers are Inuit. They provide a token Canadian military presence in their remote areas.
I was happy that this Ranger appeared to be white.
If he had been Inuit, I'm not sure he would have ended up dead as Singh suggests, but there would for sure have been some ugly conclusions drawn by the white, "we're not racist", crowd.
Sad but true.

I'm starting it farther to the left as well to eliminate most of the empty space between the drawers and the stove.

Looks like we're going to lose the use of our balcony for a few weeks. They're patching and painting the building facade, including the balconies. Have to bring in the chairs etc.
Not a total loss. Mardi will still be able to sit out there and enjoy the dawn, before the work begins. The rest of the day it's too hot anyway.

Golfed with the guys at MontHill today. I showed up as two different guys. Struggled to score a 50 on the front nine, and coasted to a 41 on the back. If I could repeat that last score twice I'd reach my bucket list "golf my age" target.
The Dog Meat money was divided five ways, which means that three of us with DM's still lost money on the day, while Ron King, with two DM's ended up a bit ahead. Calvin won the Honest John which takes half the pot.

I suppose that most of you saw the TV clip several days ago with white men holding AK-47's, etc. on the streets of Michigan. I assume their weapons were properly registered.
Then yesterday they showed a clip of a group of black men holding their guns in a similar way. They were members of a gun club and their weapons were also legal.
U.S. gun laws in some states allow both sides to act in this manner.
The white guys were just being their usual racist selves. The black guys claimed to be protecting themselves from white men who had brandished guns at them. Fair is fair, right?
But, I'm thinking that many, if not most, would have differing thoughts and would jump to different conclusions when looking at these two scenes.
Yes, the white guys are stupid. But the black guys must be dangerous! And, if either side broke the law, how would their consequences differ? Makes you think (I hope).

Headed to the greenhouse to cut an end panel for the kitchen counter from a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood (it's now been painted and will be installed on Wednesday). While there I also cut grass for an hour and a half.
And took a picture of Monica's cactus. It's on the misting bench - 6 seconds of mist every 20 minutes - to get it started. Then we'll keep an eye on it until sometime in August when it will go out for adoption. The 14 cactus buds are in the tray behind. Any of those that survive are a bonus - without Monica's request they wouldn't have happened.

Today we braved the heat and enjoyed a round of golf with Ron King and Judy Rivers. Well, Mardi enjoyed it - me not so much (I hate losing to her).
Ron put on quite a show today, chipping in on a par 5, getting a Dog Meat on a par 3 (but no money changed hands), and a birdie on Red 6, quite an accomplishment!
The good news is that we got to enjoy "birdie juice" twice - with Ron's birdie and again on Gold 6 with a birdie by Mardi. Both were on difficult dogleg holes!
To recover from the heat we celebrated with a beer on the patio.
