Vaccine Passport Time

 If you were born between January and April you can download your vaccine passport with QR code today (if you miss today, it will be available again on the 18th).

You will need your green health card - they want numbers from both sides.

For the May to August folks the download day is tomorrow.  September to December will be on Sunday.  Once again, if you miss it will be available to everyone on the 18th.

I downloaded and printed Mardi's and mine this morning.  No problems.

So, starting November 8 you can cross the U.S. border by land,  Just tell them that you are fully vaccinated and carry on.  If they send you to secondary inspection you will need to have your vaccine passport available as proof. 

However, coming back into Canada, you will still need to have had a PCR test.  Don't know how much that would cost.  Hopefully, that requirement will disappear soon.

Did some more digging and mulching today.  Noticed that David has had the Petunia baskets replaced with Garden Mum baskets.

They've still got the handles on.  Will be interesting to see if they walk away.

Rocket Man

 Repaired a drain line that had popped out of the ground and split.  Then cut grass for an hour or so.  Got stopped when the mower jammed against a stump that was about an inch high.  I had successfully cut over that stump several times.  The soft ground likely changed the situation.

The mower needs adjustment.  Unfortunately, David doesn't have time for things like this in his heavy Garden Mum shipping season.  We'll see what the prognosis is tomorrow.

Watched William Shatner speak on the Chris Cuomo show about his rocket ride.  He was very moved by the experience.  A great actor with a conscience.

That says it all!

But the golf thing is getting a bit more difficult.  After yesterday's walk, pushing the golf cart up and down over the soggy ground, I almost slept around the clock (other than pee breaks of course).  And I'm still tired and sore.

Apparently, the U.S. will be opening the land border sometime in November after they change a law.  They're suggesting that you many not even have to show your vaccination certificate unless you get sent in for a secondary check (but you'd better have it with you).  And no prior test needed.

That would take away one of the roadblocks for our Florida vacation.  Some time ago, with fingers crossed, we booked a week in New Orleans and seven weeks in Florida (it was book it or lose it - timeshare).

Next up is travel health insurance.  The cost depends on age and this year Mardi joins me in the 80-84 bracket.  If we bought insurance for the whole 11 or so weeks we expect to be in the States, it would cost  a total of about $15,000.

However, our usual routine is to buy 30 day repeatable insurance.  And after each 30 days we fly to Buffalo, rent a car, and spend an overnight back in Canada.   That restarts the insurance clock and by doing that, the insurance, two return flights and two car rentals total just about half of the $15,000.

 Costco's 30 day repeatable travel insurance may be the answer.  Their cost is about 75% of what I was quoted by CAA, our usual supplier.

Next year I move into the higher priced 85-89 bracket, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

A Walk In The Park

 Southbrook wasn't allowing power carts today, so Mardi's ladies group begged off golf.  MontHill didn't allow them either, but they had some push carts available, so Gary, David and I hit the links.  David and I pushing or pulling our carts, Gary carrying his clubs as he usually does.

For most of the time we had the course to ourselves.  And it was a beautiful fall day.  By the end we (at least David and I) were whipped, but the beer helped that situation.

Don't know how many more weeks we can count on.  We're already talking about Florida golf - and hoping.

Thanksgiving

 David and Sue invited Mardi and me for a Thanksgiving meal.  Only Ewen was available to join us, having returned from the University of Guelph for the weekend.

He was promptly put to work helping David and me untangle some plastic so it could be dragged to the greenhouse to dry.  It's going to be used at the Optimist Club Fall Fair on the 23rd.

A beautiful warm fall day.  Nice to just sit there after dinner and enjoy the peace and quiet.

A Lougheed Thanksgiving

 Mardi and I headed to her brother Greg's and Diane's home for a Thanksgiving gettogether with Mardi's brothers and (some of) their families.  Everybody has had their two doses of vaccine and it was a welcomed reunion.

On the drive home we got an invite to another Thanksgiving dinner for tomorrow.  Serious dieting is just around the corner!

Fall Fair

Glad that I cut the grass yesterday.  The place is a bit of a swamp once again after last night's rain.

The Optimist Club is holding a Fall Fair on Saturday, October 23rd at Little League Park as a fund raiser.  Trillium Hill is providing some sheets of plastic to protect the diamond and I managed to drag in a decent sized piece of plastic today so it could dry in the greenhouse.

When it's dry I'll bring in some more.

I also brought three bales of straw, that David is also donating, inside so that they could dry out too.

Didn't get any work done though.  Too wet outside.
