The tide was going out so we got to see a lot of tidal mud flats.
Between checking the cliffs to our left for Dall Sheep, and checking the Arm for Beluga Whales, Mardi has pretty well confiscated the Bushnell binoculars that my Tromper buddies gave me several years ago.
And she did locate some Dall Sheep. But they had moved by the time the photographer had his viewfinder ready.
Our destination was the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Centre.
They take in orphaned animals and rehabilitate ones that are injured. Each of the large species is provided with several acres of habitat and a one and a half mile trail takes you past them.
Grizzlies.
Elk
Muskox.
Wolf
Reindeer. I think this guy needs to be fitted with an antler crutch! What a rack!
They also provided us with a Big Stupid (but classy) Thing.
We got some exercise and spent an enjoyable few hours at the Centre and then headed back to the hotel for a short rest.
We have a 7:56 p.m. tee time at the Anchorage Golf Club, a beautiful, championship course with real grass on the tees and greens (the municipal course here has artificial turf on tees and greens). We should hit the final hole right around the midnight hour - their curfew is 12:30 a.m.
This is the description of the course on their website.
"Anchorage Golf Course overlooks the Anchorage bowl with breathtaking views of Cook Inlet and Mount McKinley.
Visitors have a chance to see some of Alaska's wildlife including moose, fox, waterfowl, and the occasional bear. The layout of the Anchorage Golf Course is as challenging as it is beautiful; 6,600 yards of rolling, tree-lined fairways lead to well-guarded, undulating greens."
But that will be news for tomorrow. To be continued - stay tuned.
