Pumpkins

First off, I'm upset that none of my Tuesday golf buddies challenged my picture yesterday of David practicing Quoits.  After all, our annual challenge match is coming up on Thursday.  I thought they would be upset - apparently they're asleep.

Secondly, after the gardening issue, Calvin asked how the pumpkins are doing.

As you can see, they are doing well.  Not 1,000 pounders, but heavier than I want to try to pick up.

The vine in the foreground has called it quits, satisfied with its two pumpkins.  The other two are still going at it, working on third gourds in each case.

These pumpkins are for decoration only.  They won't likely be sold.

David has twelve of these cardboard bins full of pumpkins for sale.

 ..................including these ugly buggers.

------------------------------------------------------

Made good progress on my gardening tasks today.  Tomorrow is golf.  Wednesday will be grass cutting.

No Blue Jays game tonight.

Stay well.

House and Garden Day

I cut the grass on the newly contoured and sodded area.

From this..........

and this.............

To this.......

Although I prefer this view....

-------------------------------------------------------

Today I edged and weeded gardens.  Like this one.

And this one.  The Mums from David's first planting had done their job.

So they were replaced by Mums from his final planting.  They have just started to open.

Tomorrow will be more of the same.

---------------------------------------------------------

Blue Jays won again, so they're still in the hunt.  They start a series against the Yankees on Tuesday.

---------------------------------------------------------

Stay well.

Proof Of Vaccination

Here is a tip that may be useful for some of you.  The Hamilton Public Library will make a reduced copy of your vaccination certificate and laminate it.  Free service.  Don't need to be a member (although Mardi is).  Just drop in and it takes 5 or 10 minutes.

The laminated copy will fit in a purse or can be folded and kept in a wallet.

-------------------------------------------------

Nice ceremony before the Twins - Jays game tonight as Minnesota inducted Canadian Justin Morneau into their Hall of Fame.

And the Jays won.  Hopefully will become a trend.

-------------------------------------------------

Stay well.

Downtown Drayton

Spent an extremely pleasant day - Mardi and I drove to Drayton, Ontario with Kathryn to check out a property she is looking at.

I've never been to Drayton before.  It's a beautiful small town, quiet  and peaceful.  Lots of small parks and a one kilometre trail in town along the Grand River to walk the dog.  No Horton's or MacDonald's but we did find a lovely coffee shop just a couple of blocks from the place she was looking at.

We came away with good vibes.  If she proceeds with a purchase I think she'll be happy there.

Good luck Kathryn.

--------------------------------------------------

This evening was not so good - Blue Jays lost again.  Don't look like a playoff team right now.

--------------------------------------------------

Stay well.

Baked Politician

Birthday greetings to Jill Parker (aka Helga).  Best wishes on your special day Jill.

------------------------------------------------

The shipping dock at the greenhouse is a swimming pool once again.

The pump is redirecting the water to the pond out back.

---------------------------------------------------

One last political comment:

Thanks to Mardi for that one.

---------------------------------------------

Blue Jays lost again.  Oh well.

Take care.

Politics

Stayed home because of the rain so there's not a lot to report.  Blue Jays lost, but plunked Kiermeier (the guy who picked up their pitcher strategy sheet when the Jays catcher dropped it - and wouldn't return it).  Sportsmanship is rare in baseball unfortunately.  Retribution is common.

------------------------------------------------------------

So let's finish with some political gems sent to me by John Buckley.

We hang petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office
Aesop, Greek slave & fable author

Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber.
Plato, ancient Greek Philosopher

Politicians are the same all over: they promise to build a bridge even where there is no river.
Nikita Khrushchev, Russian Soviet politician

When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President; I'm beginning to believe it.
Quoted in 'Clarence Darrow for the Defence' by Irving Stone.

Politicians are people who, when they see light at the end of the tunnel, go out and buy some more tunnel.
John Quinton, American actor/writer

Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by promising to protect each from the other.
Oscar Ameringer, "the Mark Twain of American Socialism."

I offered my opponents a deal: "if they stop telling lies about me, I will stop telling the truth about them".
Adlai Stevenson, campaign speech, 1952.

A politician is a fellow who will lay down your life for his country.
Texas Guinan, 19th century American businessman

I have come to the conclusion that politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians.
Charles de Gaulle, French general & president

Instead of giving a politician the keys to the city, it might be better to change the locks.
Doug Larson, English middle-distance runner who won gold medals at the 1924 Olympic Games

What happens if a politician drowns in a river? That is pollution.
What happens if all of them drown? That is solution!

I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two are lawyers and three or more are the government.
John Adams (1735 - 1826)

Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Government. But then I repeat myself.
Mark Twain (1835- 1910)

I don't make jokes. I just watch the Government and report the facts.
Will Rogers (1879- 1935)

I contend that for a nation to try and tax itself into prosperity, is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.
Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)

A government which robs Peter to pay Paul, can always depend on the support of Paul.
Will Rogers (1879- 1935)

The problem we face today is that the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.
George Bernard Shaw (1856- 1950)

I don't like political jokes, but a lot of them get elected.

Just nod your head and laugh a little.  Stay well.

Minority Eh?

Missed posting last night, courtesy of a Microsoft update.  Seems like after every update  the computer takes forever to get going the first time.  After twenty minutes and no success I gave up.  Much better tonight.

---------------------------------------------------

Now wasn't that an exciting election?  We do welcome change!

We can only hope that Trudeau will shut up for a while and actually do some of the things he has promised.  I'm sure that our Indigenous friends would welcome that!  The folks in Afghanistan would have welcomed his help as well.

And the Conservatives will now carve up Erin O'Toole because he softened their message during the election.  Erin isn't the problem - the stone age folks in his party are the real problem.  They and their platform are the reasons that Trudeau is still around.

-----------------------------------------------------

We enjoyed the company of Al Addis today at golf.  Haven't seen him for a while.  He's the handsome dude between me and the camera.  'Twas a beautiful day for golf!

After golf, the partners for our annual Quoits Championship were picked.  The event was to take place on Thursday, but when David drew my name as his partner, all of a sudden Thursday was cancelled because of the threat of rain and an ominous warning "We may not be able to get the game in this year" was issued.

I think Sven's afraid of the Craigs!  The Scots can take on the Norse any time.
--------------------------------------------------

I completed my landscaping project yesterday, but I'll wait until I've cut the grass a couple of times before I show it.  In the meantime, I'm watering the sod every day until roots are established.

---------------------------------------------------

Blue Jays lost last night but won a tough one tonight, so they're still in a wild card spot.  Exciting to watch.

---------------------------------------------------

Stay positive.  Stay well.
