OK. Let's have a show of hands. With all that Trump has said and done, who thought that police brutality would be one of the big election issues?
I continue to believe that the demonstrations and anger wouldn't be so large and continuous if Trump hadn't set the stage with all his hard right rhetoric. I'm sure he wouldn't want to take credit for it, but any improvement in policing is going to be at least partly because of his opposing stance. Ironic!
In Canada, it seems that our vaunted RCMP need some different policies as well. Although we don't know the full story, beating a former elected tribal chief for having an expired car license tag seems a bit over the top. Any of you white folks guilty of this offence? Been beaten or shot at by cops lately?
If changes are made here, part of the reason may very well be that we simply want to look better than Trump and the U.S. If so, I'm OK with that - just get it done.

In the meantime, one of our most pressing issues is the need for hairdos and haircuts. Looks like Hamilton and Niagara are going to have to wait for a few more weeks to solve that problem.
One of the unfortunate results of this could be an exodus to the rural areas where hair salons are allowed to open. Could make the spread of COVID-19 even worse.

Spent some time today moving empty skids that once held bags of soil. Put the remaining skids all in a neat row, but by the time I finished another skid was empty. David says that the volume he and other garden centres are moving is way more than any other year. Suppliers are rationing shipments because they can't keep up.

OMG! I Have Readers!
I missed posting yesterday because there was no interesting news, I didn't want to just fill space, and frankly I was wondering how many of the folks on the mailing list really cared any more.
Apparently one of my daughters and my brother do! (I'm not sure if Ron King cares or if he just doesn't have anything else to do, but I take his threat seriously!)
And my camera is back among the living. I turned it on and let the battery totally drain. Scared it into submission! Recharged, it seems OK now.

Today we golfed with Matt and Maureen, her first time out with us since she had another stent inserted last month. She just crushed the ball today - I'll have to look into that stent thing!
For me it was a good day too. Just 6 strokes over my age! Despite that, my dear wife only took pictures of the result of one my bad swings.
Had to waste a shot getting back on the fairway. The green is through the trees to the right.
Sorry about the golf story Roger. Beautiful weather - you should get out of your basement more often!

So, who do you want to see as Joe Biden's pick for VP? My choice would be Kamala Harris. Former prosecutor, very articulate, and tough when needed. And she has black and indigenous DNA. If chosen, she could very well end up being the first female President of the U.S. Sounds good to me!

A Contrarian View
I'm going to start with a statement that may shock you. Please bear with me on this.
Donald Trump's Presidency Is A Good Thing.
What would have happened if Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton had been President now? They would have said all the right things, the Minneapolis murder would have been investigated, and the comfortable people would have watched for a while and then gone back to their normal lives.
But look at, and think about, what is going on now. President Trump's actions have revolted most people, his Evangelical and white Protestant base has begun to erode, and powerful voices are finally speaking out. The comfortable majority have been shaken by the events, and right wing hatred and white supremacy are being seen for what they are. Systemic racism is being laid bare.
If there was ever a confluence of events and climate that could lead to meaningful change, this could be it.
The real test will come in November. If he is re-elected the U.S. is probably doomed. If he is defeated, don't think for a minute that everything will be OK. Trump will probably call on the right wing militias, the Boogaloos, to avenge his defeat at the hands of the "cheating" left wing.
Civil war could easily break out. If so, it will take months, if not years, to defeat the guerilla groups who will try to wreak havoc, but they will eventually be conquered.
Good people will end up victorious. They will be more understanding. All people will be closer to being treated equally. Gun laws will be made more effective. Police will be more restrained and accountable. Universal health care could result.
Even in Canada it could hopefully have an effect. Systemic failures in our treatment of Indigenous peoples and people of colour may finally be addressed.
Because of Trump.

In more mundane matters I uncovered a small asparagus bunch while cutting the back field.
That pretty three leafed plant beside the asparagus is poison ivy. Have to be careful when cutting the asparagus!
As a finder's bonus, David let me take home the first cuttings. From farm to plate. Tasty! The rye and coke was good too.

Asleep At The Switch Day
Missed a great photo op today. Gary Taylor sold his tandem bike to David and delivered it today. David and Sue took it for a spin and I was so interested in watching that I forgot to get the camera. Damn!

Too wet to cut grass after last night's light show and deluge, so I cleaned up a garden. But the humidity was incredible and my back started aching so it was a short day. Malcolm showed up and changed the wheels on mom's and dad's vehicles. Nice to see him - it's been a while.

Canaries and Bluebirds
We had a sartorial competition today.
The Canaries (2018 Quoits Champs).
We enjoyed "happy hour" in a new fashion after the game.

One of my long held bucket list items is to post a golf score that matches my age. This could be the year! Despite four lost balls, and four 3 putt greens, I shot a 93. The potential is there!

Reality vs. Reality Show
I cut part of the back field today. There are still a few remnants of the Asparagus that was grown there when this land was farmed. Came across this specimen which grew tall and spindly because of the high grass and neglect.
Nowadays, the family vegetable farm takes on a different look. Good work Sarah-Jean!

Tonight I watched the police tear gas a quiet protest group so they would leave the front of the White House. The reason? So Trump could walk across the street, hold a bible up in front of a boarded up church for a photo op, and then turn around and walk back to the White House. I'm afraid this isn't going to end well!
